A Forest Service worker photographed a fire burning inside a tree. He said there is no filter on the photo, rather, the fire is so hot this is its actual color.
Earth’s upper atmosphere—below freezing, nearly without oxygen, flooded by UV radiation—is no place to live. But last winter, scientists from the Georgia Institute of Technology discovered that billions of bacteria actually thrive up there.
Expecting only a smattering of microorganisms, the researchers flew six miles above Earth’s surface in a NASA jet plane. There, they pumped outside air through a filter to collect particles.
Back on the ground, they tallied the organisms, and the count was staggering: 20 percent of what they had assumed to be just dust or other particles was alive. Earth, it seems, is surrounded by a bubble of bacteria.
The more you learn about science the more you realize that we actually know very very little about the incredible world we live in.

Thank you space bacteria for being our force field of life

An Indonesian Island in which trees absorb dead babies
On the Indonesian island Tana Toraja, if a baby dies before he starts
teething, the family cuts a hole in a tree and places the dead child
inside.
The tree regrows around the baby and absorbs it.The image shows a
baby grave tree located in Tana Toraja. A local guide explains this
conduct by saying that they bury the babies in the trees so the wind can
waft away their souls.
This tribe has a different way of looking at life and death. Funerals
can last up to a week and they’re one of the main events in their
calendar. They dress in bright colors and dance merrily while they tell
the life-story of the deceased. (Source 1, Source 2)
The tree was put under arrest in 1898, when a British army officer, James Squid, under the influence of alcohol, thought that the tree was moving towards him. Threatened by the tree’s movement, the officer decided to teach a lesson to the offender and issued arrest warrants of the tree.
There is a certain booth in a certain Denny’s haunted by the ghost of Andy Jones. His tortured soul remains barred from the afterlife lest he settle his unfinished business, an unfinished glass of Fanta. At certain times of night you can hear him. “sip”…”sip”…”sip”. But like Sisyphus and his boulder, every time Andy’s Fanta nears the bottom of the glass, a server comes by to top him off. Always tending to the refills. 24 hours a day. 7 days a week. Trapping him forever in this ether between the realms of the living and the dead.
this is both just this website’s level of surrealist humor and a great advertisement for the attentiveness of denny’s wait staff on giving free refills and I frankly dont know how to handle it
