You know, as much as we make fun of this moment, it did make me like Peridot even more than I already did. I’ve always had a fascination with sci-fi, especially aliens and spaceships, which is partly why I got so into Steven Universe at all. As a kid I had many pieces of clothing with UFO’s and little green men on them.

Even though she most likely doesn’t realize what that pattern represents, let alone understand the irony in her, a green alien, picking out an article of clothing covered in green aliens, it still… stirs something in me. I dunno.

Ok but imagine Peridot watching Star Trek and become that one really obnoxious trekkie that memorized every last episode and all of the lore.

You do realize you’re talking to “that one really obnoxious trekkie that memorized every last episode and all of the lore.”

“You see, Steven, the Voyager episode Threshold can’t possibly be canon because in an earlier series, specifically in The Next Generation, season one, episode six, they already traveled faster than warp 10 when their ship was being controlled by an alien being known as The Traveler, thus making the idea that warp 10 is “infinite speed” completely impossible, and that time they didn’t even turn into salamanders through accelerated evolution either.”

That was no simple slip-up. You don’t just make a mistake like that, not after having to identify yourself like that for the better part of your life. You actually see her being taken aback by Yellow Diamond’s response. She’s caught off guard, disappointed. She’d forgotten that just “Peridot” wasn’t enough to tell her apart. She’d become used to the idea of being unique.

When do you think that happened? When did she stop seeing herself as “Facet-2F5L, Cut-5XG” and start being Peridot with a capital P? Was it after being stranded, due to the lack of contact with another peridot for months on end? Or was it after the truce with the Crystal Gems, brought on by them addressing her as just Peridot day after day?

Facet-2F5L, Cut-5XG. That’s all she’ll ever be to Homeworld. That’s all all the other peridots will ever be. But on Earth, she is Peridot. The one and only. In a way, that’s gotta be liberating.

You got all this from one episode?
