it’s not that bad, but they’re pretty strict about the 21 yr old drinking age. Places can get busted for serving alcohol to someone younger than that, as with cigarettes.

It’s got more to do with soda companies wanting to be the sole provider of any beverage at all within the establishment.
I ignore how the european fast food market behaves; but from what I gather, in this westland it’s all about speed and not having to spend actual time in the premises, which alcohol requires to be fully enjoyed.
