I’ve never been certain what good they’re for, though.

tumblr’s built-in archive system is profoundly useless.

I use it a lot, actually. If you know about when something was posted, it’s not hard to find it.
But tags are better for navigating purposes.

I use it to remember past lols, kinda like when you clean the house attic.
