Ok tensile structures is not the concept I’m thinking of then, but memory alloys can totally serve a function in mechanical transfer systems. Like, coiled vanadium dioxide ribbons can reach a torsional speed of 200,000 rpm, and twisted yarn actuators… tho I’m unsure if those qualify as SMAs
