i’m stuck at a choice.

the first - let’s say ‘period’ - of the ict course ended today. the orientation classes are over, it’s time to choose a specialization. the options are business, media design, software and technology. i’m stuck between those last two. i’m the only one who hasn’t decided yet.

if i were to choose technology, i would have to start going to classes at a bigger location in a different city: eindhoven. i’ve become kind of used to the current location in tilburg. it’s nice and small. i’ve become accustomed to the routine of going to tilburg every day, and disrupting routines isn’t something i’m fond of. also, my grandmother lives in tilburg, which makes it easy to visit often, so i already know my general way around. i’ve never been to eindhoven.

choosing software would mean i get to stay in tilburg, but i’d be missing out on what i planned to do from the start: getting into robotics. the robot i built for my personal project did turn out to be a lot harder and frustrating than expected, but it was also fun and rewarding. there’s nothing wrong with not going into robotics, it was always a bit of a pipe dream. still, i’ll probably have doubts for a long time if i go into software. then again, i’ll have doubts no matter what i pick.

I wasted 2 years doing what was convenient and in the end it just reinforced the desire for doing what I really did want.
