Nah. They’re distinct. The first few eps of FMA:B are actually similar plotwise to the first few of FMA, but then after [SPOILERS EXPUNGED, SADNESS] it completely diverges and follows the manga.
Basically it condenses the first 25 episodes of the other anime into like… 15 episodes, then it continues following the manga. You can tell when it diverges from the first manga when the OP changes to Hologram.
Honestly if you watch FMA first those 15 will feel like a Dragon Ball Z Kai - .-
