[please read my moon theory post first]
this is honestly one of THE MOST SUSPICIOUS ONE PIECE COVERS, especially after we find out that the Skypieans, the Shandians, and Bilkans all came from the moon, and that the Shandian’s ancient ancestors had some connection to the Void Century, given that they were tasked with protecting a Poneglyph. not to mention all the advanced technology that the ancient moon people had over 800 years ago.
the Ancient Kingdom that created the Poneglyphs were stated to have advanced technology, which is how they created the Poneglyphs in the first place. they’re unbreakable, and yet they somehow managed to carve a lasting message into those incredibly strong blocks of stone. there is a direct connection there. The Ancient Shandians had one of these Poneglyphs. why? what was their connection to the Ancient Kingdom?
And why draw Luffy with those (Shandian? Skypeian?) wings? especially if those are Shandian wings. why draw the main character with the wings of a people who have a direct connection to the Void Century and the Ancient Kingdom? why is he winking, like he knows a secret that he’s not going to tell, as if he’s teasing the audience? Why?
this whole cover is just so suspicious
What the fuck are you going on about?? Wasn’t this show about pirates?????
to answer your question, yes and no
the main characters are pirates. they each have dreams that they wanna fulfill and they go on adventures and Luffy (the guy with the Straw Hat, he’s the character the story follows) wants to be Pirate King, and the world is currently in the Great Pirate Age, where pirates all over the world are trying to find the Pirate King’s treasure, the One Piece. but the actual plot of One Piece is is far, far more complicated
warning: spoilers
the plot deals with racism (particularly against Fishmen–a race of half fish/half human people, and mermaids)
the social issues with passing your hate onto the next generation
slavery
trying to create a better future without hatred and racism
an entire century of history that’s been erased
a corrupt government willing to destroy an ENTIRE ISLAND OF PEOPLE to keep the world from learning about the Blank Century and this mysterious Ancient Kingdom
something called the Will of D (characters who have the middle initial “D”, Monkey D Luffy, Gol D Roger, Portgas D Ace…, all of the ones who’ve died are known to have died smiling), which is somehow connected to the Poneglyphs
and somehow the Will of D, the Poneglyphs, and this ancient history are all connected to the great treasure, One Piece
and somehow, finding this great treasure will cause the whole world to be thrown into chaos, which is what the government fears the most
there are also things like corrupt kingdoms, pirates trying to overtake kingdoms to get their hands on one of the ancient weapons, the government itself trying to get the ancient weapons to wipe out all pirates, a group of very powerful revolutionaries that directly oppose the World Government, the history of the winged people who’s ancestors came from the moon and their mysterious connection to the Ancient Kingdom…
the show itself is mostly about adventure, fighting for and relying on your friends, trying to fulfill your dreams, never giving up, and continuing to live on even through the harshest of tragedies. each character has their own character arcs and their own tragic backstory, and their own strengths and weaknesses. there are good marines and bad marines, and good pirates and bad pirates; there’s no “real” good side or bad side. but the show never takes itself too seriously despite all this. the main characters encounter transforming reindeer, cyborgs, zombies, giant killer rabbits, giants, an island of dinosuars, and so many other strange and silly things
but the overarching plot of the series is about Luffy finding One Piece and what that will do to the world once it’s been found
That was really well said. Thank you for this post and I hope it helps explain One Piece better to new potential fans.
Thanks to Trafalgar’s backstory, we now know that people with D. in their names are the natural enemy to the celestial dragons. It’s been said that the well of D. comes from a tribe of people who will not bow down to the celestial dragons and will send the chaos into the world.
I think D stands for defiant.
From the previous post it sounds like the D. could have been survivors of the OP worlds version of the lost city of Atlantis.
This post needs more notes, like millions! I can’t stop the shivers and goosebumps from going up and down.
