Amidst all the commentary on yesterday’s Smash Direct, I just have to add that Masahiro Sakurai has to be THE cutest game developer ever. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again.

He posts pictures of his cat on Twitter.

HIS CAT IS HIDDEN IN A BRAWL STAGE.

And he just seems so earnest. Like, I know people will ALWAYS complain about something or other in SSB, like their favorite character not making it in, or Pokemon being over-represented, but Sakurai really does just seem so earnest and sweet and like he works his butt off to make people happy and balance all these demands and pressures that come in from all sides, trying to keep fans of Nintendo’s biggest franchises happy while still giving nods to a huge variety of games that many players may have never even heard of.

There’s no substitute for Sakurai.
