Someone asked on a post a while ago who Donald’s sister is.
Short crash course if you don’t know anything about Disney Ducks;
She has different names depending on which country’s comics you are reading, but in english her name is usually ‘Della’ while in the Europe she’s generally called ‘Dumbella’. She and Donald are twins.
Della is Huey Dewey and Louis’ mom.
Long story short, she eventually couldn’t cope with the triplets any more after they set off a firecracker under their father’s chair and put him in hospital, so she effectively dumped them on Donald because “I can’t handle them any more. You take them for a while.”
If you think that’s messed up I’ll also add that Donald and his sister were not on speaking terms at this time (and remain so. Donald is also not on speaking terms with his parents).
After this, Della disappears from the picture. There’s been some problems by the comic writer’s trying to decide what to do but it is generally been decided not to elaborate on where Della is, because there is really only 2 answers. The first (and more likely) being that she just abandoned the triplets after leaving them with Donald. And the second is that she and her husband met with some accident which is why they never came back. The writers of most Disney comics decided both answers are too depressing to really explore when dealing with children, so they’ve never properly answered the question.
So that’s who Donald’s sister is.
What
Wasn’t there a recent comic in which it’s revealed that Dumbella is a pilot that decided to test a rocket with experimental fuel and due to space time relativity, she thinks she’s spending like 15 minutes in space while letting her babies with her brother while she’s in comic book time spending something like at least 8 years and decades upon decades in real time?
that’s even more fucked up than either of the above tbh because if she ever gets back to earth she’ll be like “hey kids! how’s it been spending the afternoon with unca donald?” and they’ll be like “…you’ve been absent our entire childhood. we barely remember you anymore. you foisted us on your brother and essentially made him raise us.”
Now that I remember, she did contact both Donald and the triplets via
tablet, the pages in which it happen are right here, but they’re in
portuguese so I’ll do my best to translate them:
Gyro Gearloose: See, the Astronaut!
Others: Huh?
Dumbella: Hello, you all look familiar!
Dumbella: You look like my sons, Huey, Dewey and Louie… but a little bit older!
Dumbella: I miss my cuties!
The triplets: Huey, Dewey and Louie? But… who are you?
Dumbella: Dumbella Duck! I am testing the first rocket ship in history!
Dumbella: Until here, everything is all right! I should fly until the tank’s at its half! Then I shall return to Earth!
Dumbella: Then I’ll go to the house of my brother Donald! He takes care of my sons! But what an incredible resemblance… what are your names?
The Triplets: I’m Nico, I’m Tico, My name’s Chico.
Dumbella: Hee, hee, what silly names!
Triplets: Just a question, mo- um Dumbella, since when are you travelling?
Dumbella: Hee, hee, just 15 minutes! In an hour, I’ll return to the base and happy…
Dumbella: I may be adventurous, but I can’t stand a day without seeing my little ones! Good bye!
Donald: I don’t understand, kids! Why didn’t you tell Dumbella the truth?
Triplets: We don’t want for her to worry and to return earlier, Unc’ Donald…
Triplets: Because we like to stay with you!
Donald: [Sniffs]
(On the other hand there’s another implication that by the time Dumbella returns it is possible that the kids will be either Scrooge McDuck levels of old if not already dead, so)
Ducktales: Prepare to Cry Edition
So the writers heard about Einstein’s Twin Paradox then.
