POKEDDEXY CHALLENGE DAY 5

-Favorite Fairy Type-

Carbink, the Jewel Pokémon

I’ll be honest with you guys, I’m not a huge fan of the Fairy type. None of the Pokémon with this type I find really appealing and they nail my Flygon and Mega Ampharos. I DO like that they’re the second thing the Poison type, my favorite, is strong against. Took it only 17 years to become more potent.

Carbink, however, I do not mind. It’s based on the interesting process of how Carbon becomes Diamond when exposed to high pressure and temperatures 140 to 190 km down in the very Earths mantle. This process takes 1 billion years at the very least. That’s about 25% of our plantes age! Naturally, this stuff is really deep down in the mantle, but some of it manages to surface via volcanic eruptions for example. No wonder diamonds are rare!

Furthermore, Carbink also seems to be based on a carbuncle, a creature of myths that’s said to have gems growing out of it, specifically it’s forehead, just like Carbink.

(Do yourself a favor and DON’T google “carbuncle”, as it is also a type of abscess (collection of pus within a tissue of skin) and is quite frankly very disgusting to look at, especially if you have a weak stomache.)

As for Carbink ingame, it’s actually a little similar to Shuckle, whom I’ve dealt with in Day 1. Carbink has a mere 50 base stats in everything but it’s defenses, which both have a massive 150. It also shares the ability Sturdy with Shuckle (though it’s a bit harder to get on Carbink). Sturdy rarely matters though, as Carbinks defenses make it an near-immovable object. It is however the ONLY Pokémon that can learn Trick Room and have the ability Sturdy. It’s Speed of a pathetic 50 and amazing bulk makes it an optimal Trick Room setter. It also learns a few useful support moves, such as Guard Split, Reflect and Light Screen.

Being a big fan of Trick Room teams and needing a new Trick Room setter in the most recent generation, I decided to give Carbink a spin. It’s turned out quite useful: Carbink is perfectly capable of staying around for a few turns, in which it sets up the Trick Room and follows up by setting up either Reflect or Light Screen, depending on the opponents Pokémon. After that it spams Dazzling Gleam to break Sturdy/Focus Sashes on the opponents and do some additional damage. Should the match not be over by then, it can refresh the Trick Room.

It also looks like a Football, so that’s kinda neat I guess.

Fun fact: If my younger sister was in a car accident and desperately needed a blood transfusion to live, and I was the only person on Earth who could donate blood to save her, and even though donating blood is a relatively easy, safe, and quick procedure no one can force me to give blood. Yes, even to save the life of a fully grown person, it would be ILLEGAL to FORCE me to donate blood if I didn’t want to.

See, we have this concept called “bodily autonomy.” It’s this….cultural notion that a person’s control over their own body is above all important and must not be infringed upon. 

Like, we can’t even take LIFE SAVING organs from CORPSES unless the person whose corpse it is gave consent before their death. Even corpses get bodily autonomy. 

To tell people that they MUST sacrifice their bodily autonomy for 9 months against their will in an incredibly expensive, invasive, difficult process to save what YOU view as another human life (a debatable claim in the early stages of pregnancy when the VAST majority of abortions are performed) is desperately unethical. You can’t even ask people to sacrifice bodily autonomy to give up organs they aren’t using anymore after they have died. 

You’re asking people who can become pregnant to accept less bodily autonomy than we grant to dead bodies.
