Anonymous: Your bunny is adorable! Do you have any tips for making lines look smoother? I have a tablet, but it's harder to make the lines smooth with a brush than it is with a real pencil.
the big thing for drawing smoothly is to draw with your arm, not your wrist. your wrist should be mostly still, and your arm should be moving from the elbow. this will give you a much wider range of motion, which allows you to draw clean, fluid lines. here’s a comparison I did a while ago:
it takes a loooooot of practice to get the hang of it, especially if you’re just starting out on a tablet. tablets feel different from drawing on paper and have a bit of a learning curve; you do get the hang of it pretty quick though, so the best way to do that is to just sit down and doodle for a while until it feels more natural.
draw with confidence! since you’re on a tablet, you can easily erase any excess, so take full advantage of that and draw over lines, move them around, etc. if you’re using a program that lets you rotate the canvas, downward strokes tend to be easier to control. also, draw much larger than the finished size! when you resize the final image, the lines will look a bit smoother. Bunny was done at 1200x1292, then resized to 828x969 (I cropped a bit off in there somewhere but you get the point).
for very long or weirdly-shaped lines, I usually do a series of smaller strokes, and then erase the extra bits and fill them in so they look nice. like here, in the long curve:
it looks a bit funky still cause I’d ordinarily take more care in it, but you see what I mean!
I’ve also heard there are correcting/smoothing programs you can use if you’re really having trouble, but that I don’t know much about. :Y
