the reasoning for the new rattata alolan form is actually amazing

as someone who grew up in hawaii and had to learn about the native and invasive species on the islands in school this is most definitely a nod to what actually happened in hawaii. there was a rat problem on the islands so farmers decided to ship in mongoose to get rid of the pests but that didnt turn out so well since the rats are nocturnal while the mongoose are out and about during the day.

which explains the new alolan rattata which is a dark/normal type
