Japan’s Kayashima Station is built around
a 700-year-old tree. When town officials
planned to cut down the tree, which is
associated with a local deity, there was
public outcry. Rumors began to spread
about the tree being angry and cursing
anyone who touched it. Station officials
didn’t want to tempt fate, so they built
the train platform around the tree and
surrounded it with a small shrine. SourceSource 2Source 3
Japan just survived the opening of a Supernatural episode.
At least one writer suggested that the chupacabra had language skills and could understand spoken Spanish (including profanities), as seen in this description of an eyewitness’s encounter: “The housewife’s eyes met those of the inhuman creature and stared it down, as she thought aloud, ‘If you’re the Chupacabras, you’re a pretty sorry excuse for a creature,’ then promptly added the abusive word pendejo to her thought. The gargoylesque entity slowly covered its pointed face with its wings, as if hurt by her rebuff. It moved away from its position, slinked against a wall, and half hid behind a washing machine.”
