That humans of New York post’s notes are filled with people going ‘kids don’t talk like that! It’s fake!’ And I’m like…lemme go inform my 8-10 year old self of that lmao. I pulled back cause lo and behold folks don’t like it when kids have a vocabulary around here :x
I remember when I was 7 or 8 years old and at the dentist to get a cavity filled, and he was smiling in the sort of way adults do to try to cheer up children.
“We’re going to put some sleepy juice on your tooth now.” he says in that artificially cheerful voice adults trying to cajole kids use.
I eyed him. Even at that age, I didn’t like people talking down to me. “You mean Novocaine. No thank you, it won’t help.” It wouldn’t. Novocaine has never worked for me, or for my brother and sister.
The look on his face I will treasure until the day I leave this mortal plane, and I still remember that moment whenever people think kids are like, incapable of understanding or using advanced vocabulary.
